Greetings fellow motorcyclists! I might have an issue with rear wheel spinning while bike is on stand. I have pit-bull stands (rear and front). Here is first video, sorry for arcane language (rear and front stands).

When spun as hard as possible, the rear wheel should not spin more than one complete revolution if the brakes are adjusted properly. On the wheel that spins freely check the self-adjuster as it may be frozen in place and not allowing the brake to be adjusted on its own. It is too loose. The other side sounds like it might be too tight.

The front wobbling side-to-side is usually the result of the wheel being off-center or loose. If the spacers were in wrong, I would think that both front calipers/pads would drag. Check the free movement of the wheel without calipers mounted. Then mount one at a time. Also check that the rotors still look true and not bent. The reason one side turns easier than the other is because of the ADD disconnecting that wheel via a stub shaft, the opposite side has to turn the shaft and diff... but it should turn too hard. If you can move your wheels side to side with it jacked up you got some kind of front end problem: idler arm, ball joint, etc.

Before took off my tires, when lifted my tires spin freely. after changing all tires, i turned on my car and tried to reverse but the engine would rev but car was still. I then put it on drive it moved a little but had clicking sound as if it was too tight i loosen the lugs. When reversing it moved n inch n engine would rev. So then i decided to take the tires off… the rotors would turn 2. Take the calipers off and spin wheel - with a felt pen - mark the high spots... If something hit could be bent... You straighten with a very large adj. wrench to pull it a ruber mallet to knock it down... Use solvent to remove pen be done in 10 min. or less... Should the front wheel spin freely on a jacked-up bike?.

After the install, I tried to spin the front wheel (with the bike on stand) and there was some drag. The wheel doesn't spin freely as it did before with the old brake pads...basically doesn't complete one full rotation when spun with hand. I checked the brake fluid level and it is between low and high, I removed the pads, cleaned the pistons.

Repair - Why is my new front wheel not spinning? - Bicycles.

Rear wheel especially may not spin freely when new, fresh grease in the freehub and bearings etc. the front wheel should be much freer, but again the bearings will be fully greased which does add a little drag it *is* possible that the bearings are a bit too tight, probably they will be cup and cone ones which are easily adjusted, but tbh.

Motorcycle front wheel not spinning freely.

It is not dangerous, you just have a little bit stuck pistons. Remove brake pads. Pump pistons gently to brake disk. Remove one brake caliper. Wash pistons with dish washer and tooth brush. Push pistons back to caliper. Pump front brake to see if pistons move freely. While installing rim strips on my 2000 CBR F4, I noticed the front wheel was a bit tight. The video shows how I fixed it (I hope).

3 Answers Sorted by: 10 The most likely problem is that the brakes are rubbing. If you pick up the front of the bike, hold your head near the brakes and spin the wheel you shouldn't hear any noise from the brakes. If you do, then the brakes are rubbing and that's the first problem to be fixed. (the wheel and hub will turn but not freely)----take the pliers and back off the axle nut 1/4 turn----now spin the wheel and axle hub, it should spin freely---now if doesn't spin freely---back off the axle nut about 1/16 or 1/32 (or just a little bit)-----now, spin the wheel and hub and if turn freely------------now grab the top of the wheel/tire.

Rear wheel doesn't spin freely while on stand.

I am unfamiliar with your front brake design so, these are merely suggestions; 1- Check the rotors to insure they are "floating" on the bobbins. 2- Check that the new pads are free to move in the caliper. 3- Remove pads, inspect the caliper, clean everything and reassemble. 4- Insure that your master cylinder does not have any debris in the fluid.

It should let the piston slide back into the caliper. Tighten bleed screw, install caliper and wheel, and top off the brake fluid if needed. Or the top of the resevoir. Take the calipers off, pads off, try and clean the pistons after pumping them out a little, perhaps it will work. Also, at least for my 250, you had to make sure the speedometer housing was installed correctly (about a 20 degree range), otherwise the wheel wouldn't spin properly; make sure you're installing that correctly. It may be different on the 500, but the bikes are very similar, so I would doubt it: 250 Front Wheel Install Guide. This means the caliper functions fine, but doesn't allow the whole caliper to return to a free floating position. Solution; pull out the slide pins, and grease them up well. 2.) Bad pistons. Pistons apply fine, but won't return. You can disassemble the caliper and clean it, but often it will return and you'll have to replace it. 3.) Frozen slides.

If there is actually enough resistance that you can feel it while you are riding however, I'd be inclined to say you have a wheel bearing problem. motogeek Posted April 27, 2014 Pry the brake shoes away from the rotor and then spin the front tire to see if it is the brakes dragging. If not, then it is most likely the bearings. XtremeDuners. ToyoLuv said: Perfectly normal. You're thinking about a rear wheel drive car. The car is front wheel drive. You will feel the resistance of the transmission when turning the wheel. Go spin the rear wheels and those will be as you're describing. Note this is a stick shift and it was out of gear at the time.

It should go around at least once or so before stopping. Then try again after tightening up all the bolts and see if anything changes.

Prying didn't help. Prying and hitting the side popped it loose and it moved back into position with no further problems. Wheel is spinning freely as it should. Rode it a bit (trying to find a place that had a replacement screw for the brake reservoir, found one!), everything seems ok now. I continued to spin my rear wheel and still it did not spin freely. I replaced with my old stock wheels for a comparison and they continued spinning for well over a minute before I stopped them.... I do the front wheel just lifting it off the floor to spin it. It's a superb system after faffing about with cup and cone it's a joy! 0. llen Posts. Brake discs usually do bind slightly which would stop the wheel spinning freely. They shouldn't bind too much though. A good way to check is to go for a short ride without touching the front brake. When you stop (using the back brake) feel the disc. If it is hot, they are binding too much. ____________________.
